The goal of the Alaska Maritime Training Center is to promote safe marine operations by effectively preparing captains and crew members for employment in the Alaskan maritime industry. The Alaska Maritime Training Center is a United States Coast Guard approved training facility located in Seward, Alaska, and offers USCG/STCW compliant maritime training. In addition to the standard courses offered, customized training is available to meet the specific needs of maritime companies. Courses are delivered through the use of our world class ship simulator, state of the art computer based navigational laboratory and modern classrooms equipped with the latest instructional delivery technologies. AnnouncementsMike Demchenko Memorial Scholarship 2012For Seward High School SeniorsApril 12, 2012 One $1400.00 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Seward High School Senior whose employment goals lie in the maritime industry. Preference will be given to an applicant with the intent to spend his/her career on a research vessel. The award will be made directly to Alaska Vocational Technical Center upon enrollment in US Coast Guard approved course(s) in the Alaska Maritime Training Center. Crowley Memorial Able Seaman/Tankerman ScholarshipFor Alaska Native StudentsAVTEC - Alaska’s Institute of Technology is accepting applications for two $2,000 scholarships funded by Crowley Maritime Corp. for Alaska Native students. The scholarships are for students who will attend AVTEC’s Able-Bodied Mariner Training Program in Seward. Scholarship winners will be able to use the awards for the next AB mariner training program in the fall of 2011. “The Thomas B. Crowley, Sr. Memorial Scholarships will recognize students who demonstrate achievement and leadership ability to successfully pursue careers in the towing industry,” AVTEC Director Fred Esposito said. “With this support, Crowley Maritime is helping train a local workforce for Alaska’s maritime industry.” Candidates eligible for the scholarship must be Alaska Native, hold a valid Merchant Mariner Credential or a U.S. Coast Guard License or Merchant Mariner Document, hold a Transportation Worker I.D. card and provide sea-service letters or discharge.
